As you may already know I was made redundant from my role of Project Manager for SOCOTEC in January 2020 due to the closure of the Glasgow Ground Investigation office, throw in the global COVID-19 pandemic and finding employment was a challenge.
After applying for many different roles I had 4 separate interviews lined up for April, which were all quickly suspended due to the national lockdown. A few weeks passed and then on one sunny May day I made the brave and bold decision to go it alone.
I quickly set up the business, developed a logo and a company profile all within a matter of weeks. I made contact with recruiters, fellow colleagues and new friends I had made through LinkedIn during my unemployment...all whilst moving house during lockdown.
It did not take long before Fielders Geotechnics had my first contract ready to go on the Lower Thames Crossing as Site Agent for AECOM.
I have to thank all those people who helped me and provided support and guidance during my unemployment and also in going self-employed. I know many people are now finding themselves in a similar position as the world goes into a global financial depression, but stay positive and something good will come of it all.
